A Dream Come True

I am a witness that dreams do come true, visions do become reality and God does answer prayers! This past August, all three happened when we celebrated the grand opening of Adventist HealthCare (AHC) White Oak Medical Center on Healing Way in Silver Spring, Md. This is something that hadn’t happened in more than a hundred years, and during this journey, some might have wondered if it would happen in a million years. But God is good!

Around the turn of the 19th to 20th century, Ellen G. White, a pioneer leader of the Seventh-day Adventist movement, envisioned health care happening somewhere “on a grassy slope” in Takoma Park, Md., close to Washington, D.C. It would be a place where the healing and restoration ministry of Jesus Christ, as expressed by His church, could be offered and modeled in the local community. Washington Adventist Hospital became that place, fulfilling the dreams of our forefathers and leaders, extending the “right arm of the gospel” to the masses, and carrying forward the legacy of health and healing. And while it was a difficult decision to relocate, finding a new home became necessary so as to maintain a robust future for this valued ministry.

Adventist HealthCare Announces Several Leadership Transitions

Adventist HealthCare (AHC) has announced several leadership transitions: John Sackett, president of the AHC Shady Grove Medical Center in Rockville, Md., for the past six years and the system’s executive vice president and chief operating officer for the past five years, has transitioned out of his role as president to focus on his role at AHC headquarters.

 

 

 

 

Dan Cochran to Serve as New President of Shady Grove Medical Center

Adventist HealthCare Shady Grove Medical Center has a new leader.  Dan Cochran, the hospital’s Chief Operating Officer and Chief Financial Officer, became its president effective Aug. 19.  Cochran takes over for John Sackett, who is handing off duties at the hospital to focus on his role as Chief Operating Officer of the Adventist HealthCare system.

Terry Forde, the Chief Executive Officer of Adventist HealthCare, announced the changes internally in July, praising Cochran’s talents as an executive. “Dan has managed the complexities of hospital finance and been a stalwart supporter of Shady Grove’s growth and patient experience initiatives,” Forde said.

Adventist HealthCare (AHC) Board of Trustees (pictured), hospital staff and elected officials gathered today for the ribbon cutting ceremony of the new AHC White Oak Medical Center in Silver Spring, Md.
 
“Today is a chance to say thank you to so many people that made this day a reality,” said Terry Forde (fourth from left), president & CEO of Adventist HealthCare, prior to the ribbon cutting.
 
This comes a week after leaders and members from AHC and the Seventh-day Adventist Church gathered to bless and dedicate the new facility.
