SALT Provides Food for Underprivileged Families

When Claudia Wheeler, a member of Allegheny East Conference's University Heights church in Somerset, N.J., looked at the number of families in need of healthy meals in contrast with the amount of food wasted by restaurants and stores, she decided to start the SALT foundation in December 2017.

SALT restocks items weekly for neighborhood community fridges, food pantries, homeless shelters and soup kitchens. The foundation collects and distributes more than 3,500 pounds of food per week to serve about 500 families and individuals. They work with community programs, centers and churches to run food distribution events and partnerships.

Adventist Community Remembers Fordhams in Funeral Service

Some 1,000 attendees gathered Sunday, August 8, to remember Elder Henry and Mrs. Sharon (Wright) Fordham, who, at the time of their death on July 18, were president and first lady of the Allegheny East Conference (AEC).

To commence the service, which took place at Martin’s West in Baltimore, AEC’s Pathfinder Color Guard posted their colors with drums and flags. (See the recordings on AEC’s Facebook page.)

Capitol Hill Church Shifts Outreach to Meet Pandemic Needs

Prior to the pandemic, the Capitol Hill church in Washington, D.C., had planned to serve their commu- nity through “Acts of Kindness” days. The activities shifted due to COVID-19, however, and their focus changed to meet the needs of first responders.

Church members visited neighborhood fire and police stations, prayed with staff and surprised them with breakfast, inspirational books and gift cards.

Our Washington Adventist University community feels the immense weight of the tragic loss of our Board Trustee, Elder Henry J. Fordham, and his wife, Sharon. The loss of a great university supporter and servant leader of this magnitude motivates WAU to honor Elder Fordham and his wife for their lifetime of ministry.

With the support of the President's Cabinet and the WAU Religion Department, President Weymouth Spence announces the naming of the Henry and Sharon Fordham Department of Religion at Washington Adventist University.
