Under the dedicated leadership of Lamercie Brasier, Health Ministries director of the Salem Haitian church in East Orange, N.J., the ministry recently launched a Breast Cancer and Cervical Cancer Screening Day, bringing free health care services directly to the Essex County community. This initiative reflected the church’s ongoing commitment to not only strengthen spiritual growth but to also focus on the physical and emotional well-being of its neighborhood.
The church partnered with University Hospital in Newark, N.J., and the Rutgers Cancer Institute in New Brunswick, N.J. The hospital provided a stateof- the-art mobile screening bus, equipped with advanced technology to offer the screenings in a comfortable environment.
The event was staffed by a team of doctors, nurses, technicians and health care professionals to assist participants with care and compassion. One of the most impactful aspects of the initiative was its accessibility: Both insured and uninsured individual, s were welcomed.
The event also created an opportunity for fellowship and connection. Church members welcomed guests and shared information about the various ministries and services offered at Salem.
“Together, we can reduce the burden of these diseases through education, early detection and timely treatment, as God commands us to care for our body,” saya Brasier.
“Salem continues to be a beacon of hope, compassion and outreach,” says Pastor Wilfrid Louis Jean.
