Have you noticed that the older we get, the more we talk about the olden days and even relish the idea of meeting up with our “long-lost friends” again? Were things that much better back then, or is it that our memory and nostalgia makes it seem that way? Oftentimes, the things we remember most from our childhood can seem larger than life, and returning to them can seem less glamorous as we had once imagined.

The Bible has more than 2,300 verses on finances. Here are just a few:

STEWARDSHIP > While we wait for Christ’s return, we must manage the gifts He has given us with great wisdom.

"Whoever is generous to the poor lends to the LORD, and He will repay him for his deed" (Prov. 19:17, ESV).

GENEROSITY > In a regenerative cycle, God gives blessings so we can bless others, and when we bless others, God gives blessings.

"Bring the full tithe into the storehouse. … Put Me to the test, if I will not open the windows of heaven for you and pour down for you a blessing" (Mal. 3:10, ESV).

Johnny Stone, afternoon show host at WGTS 91.9, encourages listeners to sponsor children in Peru through Compassion International.

Story by Jerry Woods

WGTS 91.9 recently wrapped up its “Days of Compassion” event. The event was featured on the air and website over the course of three days. In total, listeners sponsored 669 children. The focus this year was on sponsoring children in Peru, who are especially affected by the political unrest and food insecurity in their country. A number of children were sponsored from other countries too.

Last spring, the North American Division conducted a survey for Adventists with comparable incomes. The results show a great diversity, ranging from an anticipated net worth at retirement below $200,000 to more than $5 million. Because of the wide distribution, the study gives great insight as to what factors correlate with net worth and provides clues for those who wish to turn around their finances.

Darius Bridges, a member of the Sligo church in Takoma Park, Md., and his dad, Conrad, recently launched a YouTube channel called Personality Pups (P-Pups). Using 12 puppies with unique personalities, this platform teaches children about their place in God’s world and shares lessons such as how to work together despite differences.

Twelve years ago, Darius, a child at the time, says he saw the world as a wonderful place. Using a white sheet of paper, he made an origami puppy he named Dot, adding a happy face and polka dots to it.

Then he took his creation to school where his classmates inspired him to keep creating. So he did, eventually creating his own world—Puppville—where Dot and her friends lived.
