Executive Committee Votes Strategic Motto for 2024–2026

Members of the Columbia Union Conference Executive Committee met today to hear reports from ministries and entities across the union. In his report, Dave Weigley (pictured with Jose Esposito), Columbia Union president, emphasized the purpose of the church: to serve our community and carry the gospel to the world. 

He noted the plans for two upcoming evangelistic initiatives—one in Cincinnati, supported by the Allegheny West and Ohio conferences, and one in Baltimore, supported by the Allegheny East and Chesapeake conferences.

DISASTER RELIEF AND FAMINE OFFERING SABBATH IS MAY 13th

The Adventist Development and Relief Agency (ADRA) is the humanitarian arm of the Seventh-day Adventist Church, that responds almost weekly to deliver life-saving aid to millions of people whose lives have been shattered by natural disasters and other emergencies.

On May 13th, church communities worldwide are encouraged to participate in the Disaster and Famine Relief Offering Sabbath, which will help ADRA continue to feed the hungry, provide clean drinking water, shelter, and medical assistance, as well as respond to the urgent needs of devastated communities in crisis.  

Kettering Health Staff Help Deliver Shoes to Elementary Students

Kettering Health Miamisburg, Kettering Behavioral Medical Center, and Kettering Health Franklin recently helped package and provide shoes to deliver to elementary school children in Franklin, Ohio. They teamed up with Shoes 4 the Shoeless to give an essential gift that many of us don’t give a second thought about: a new pair of shoes. Programs like this allow Kettering Health to live out their commitment to improve the lives of those in the communities they serve.

Atholton Adventist Academy Students 'Go Green With ADRA'

Students from Chesapeake Conference's Atholton Adventist Academy in Columbia, Md., recently participated in “Go Green With ADRA” to commemorate National Arbor Day, which is observed on the final week in April. The Adventist Development and Relief Agency (ADRA) launched the “Go Green With ADRA” initiative to inspire young people to learn about the benefits of planting trees for more sustainable and livable communities.

Guide, the Seventh-day Adventist Church’s weekly publication for juniors and earliteens, has announced the launch of its new website and a mobile app.

“We’ve talked about an app for Guide magazine for years,” says Guide webmaster Kim Peckham. “It was a little strange that we didn’t have one available. Sort of like a large church not streaming their worship service.

Chesapeake Conference Camp Meeting Returns in Person This June

Chesapeake Conference is gearing up for this year’s camp meeting, “The Gathering: Occupy Till He Comes,” which is set to take place June 13–17 on the campus of Highland View Academy in Hagerstown, Md. This year marks the return to an in-person event after the COVID-19 pandemic forced the conference to switch to a virtual format for the past three years.

“The number one question I have received lately from our Chesapeake constituents is, ‘Are we going to have camp meeting in person this year?’ The resounding answer is, ‘Yes!’” says Andre Hastick, executive secretary and camp meeting coordinator.
