Sometimes when I picture the Garden of Eden, I imagine God strolling across a green meadow with a happy dog running beside Him, birds singing overhead and butterflies drifting among the flowers. I picture joy, laughter and companionship.

Adventist Community Services of Greater Washington (ACSGW) has announced the appointment of Nancy Lamoreaux as Executive Director, effective September 1, 2026.
Lamoreaux brings more than two decades of service to ACSGW and 42 years of leadership and technology experience within the Seventh-day Adventist Church.
Her service to ACSGW began in 2004 as a member of the board of directors. In July 2023, she became chair of the board, serving until October 2025, when she became co-Executive director with Ken Flemmer.

We’ve all heard stories of hero animals who have rescued people from danger, or of beloved pets who have left a significant
impact on someone’s life. Some animals are specifically trained to aid, heal or provide comfort and companionship as we face life’s challenges.
Throughout the Bible, “ministry” is simply defined as meeting a need. Perhaps some of the most powerful examples of selfless, intentional care don’t come from the pulpit but from animals.

Pacific Press Publishing Association is partnering with the North American Division (NAD) of Seventh-day Adventists in its All Things New, a year-long initiative leading to the September 2027 global movement OneVoice27, backed by the General Conference of Seventh-day Adventists.
As part of this year-long emphasis, Pacific Press will produce a special sharing book featuring nine chapters from Ellen G. White’s The Desire of Ages. The North American Division hopes to distribute five million copies throughout its territory, giving Seventh-day Adventists opportunities to share the story of Jesus with friends, neighbors, coworkers, and community members.

Jeff Kern recently began his duties as Communication director for the Chesapeake Conference. Kern takes over the role previously held by Evan Knott, who accepted a call to Georgia-Cumberland Conference.
It has been more than year since a federal budget reconciliation bill cut $167 billion from SNAP benefits. The Montgomery Food Council has reported that nearly 500 households in Montgomery County lost their benefits, leaving them with fewer resources to afford groceries, explains Ken Flemmer, co-director of Adventist Community Services of Greater Washington (ACSGW) in Silver Spring, Md.

The Penuel church in Brandy Station, Va., recently celebrated 50 years as a congregation. The worship service provided an opportunity for the church to look back with gratitude, reflecting on five decades of ministry.
The service featured a special presentation of the church’s history, bringing Penuel’s journey back into view from the prayers prayed to the sacrifices made and the lives that have been touched along the way.

Wilmington Junior Academy (Del.) recently marked a historic milestone, celebrating 100 years of Seventh-day Adventist education. All festivities were held at the West Wilmington (Del.) church. The celebration began with a Friday night vespers service and dinner, and continued on Sabbath with a special worship service and fellowship luncheon. Students played a central role in the Sabbath program, including the school’s choir.
