Just one year ago, the First Filipino church launched a Hispanic/Latino ministry to serve its growing Spanish-speaking community. E. Jardiniano, senior pastor, and Rafael Monteiro, volunteer lay pastor, began small Sabbath afternoon gatherings focusing on prayer, Bible study and personal testimony.

The Atholton church in Columbia, Md., recently hosted two major outreach events that created significant opportunities for community engagement and evangelism.
With more than 170 children in attendance, Atholton held a high-tech “True North” Vacation Bible School (VBS), featuring a vibrant, immersive experience, complete with a professionally designed set, high-quality lighting, a colorful stage and a massive LED wall in the sanctuary. Each day, children were greeted by animated characters on lobby screens that brought the “True North” theme to life.

Under the theme, “After 25 Years—We Still Believe,” the celebration reflected on the church’s journey and looked forward with hope.

Recent events have brought the concept of the Sabbath to the forefront of many conversations. As Seventh-day Adventists we know that taking time off from secular things for one day out of every seven helps us de-stress, focuses us on our relationship with God and others, and brings about a spiritual rejuvenation. But as Seventh-day Adventists we also know that God’s gift of the Sabbath has far more significance than just a reset. The Sabbath is a memorial of creation, a part of God's unchangeable law, a time for relationship and worship, and a universal test for all humanity.
